The formation and evolution of public events are often closely related to rumor propagation. This paper takes a public event caused by environmental problems in NC city as an example. Through field investigation and in-depth interview of the event, some enlightening understandings are obtained by taking grounded theory as the research method, Rumor propagation has a significant impact on the direction of public events, Rumor plays in public events have a unique communication mechanism and evolution logic. Simple discourse expression makes rumors rely on strong relationships to achieve consensus. However, after a large number of network media’s forwarding, the imaginary truth makes the rumor code realize the meaning of implosion, and produces a kind of hyper-real experience. Driven by various relationships and group dynamics, rumors develop from implosion to detonation. Moreover, in the context of public events, the rumor discourse and rhetoric of the public need to be reexamined. The revelation given by grounded theory is that rumor is a real imagination, a simple discourse resource and a secluded public opinion landscape.
Counter-rumor is an important means to eliminate the influence of online rumors. But it is not always effective to refute rumors, and in some cases backfire effect even appears. Raising the credibility of counter-rumor is very important, but there is still a lack of discussion on the mechanism that affects the credibility of counter-rumor. This paper establishes a credibility model of counter-rumor from the perspective of information audience perception, which is verified by two empirical researches. The result is that information quality, source credibility and original attitude are the main factors affecting the credibility of counter-rumor. In addition, information involvement plays a moderating role. For high-level involvement users, quality of information and the credibility of information sources have significantly effect and original attitude has little effect. For low-level involvement users, the information quality has little effect, the original attitude and credibility of information sources have significantly effect.
Based on 1036 reports related to the “Belt and Road Initiative” from India’s top three mainstream English-language newspapers, The Times of India, The Hindu and Hindustan Times from 2015 to 2018, this paper illustrates their agenda framing, triggering events and other characteristics of each stage by the method of semantic network analysis. The paper then describes the whole picture of the development of Indian media’s attitude according to four categories of rhetoric motives, roles, settings, plots and endings. As for the journalistic practice of domestication, the three Indian media invite their readers to relate with coverage on “BRI” by citing Indian officials, recalling the collective memory of their people, emphasizing India’s core interest and referring to India’s foreign policies. The role domestication plays in the negotiation between globalization and localization and its ideal form under the norm of journalistic professionalism are also discussed with reference to the three media’s coverage.
A nationwide survey (N= 396) was conducted on occupational commitment of journalists in China. Occupational commitment consists of three dimensions: emotional commitment, continuous commitment and normative commitment. The result shows that journalists have a medium level of occupational commitment, in which continuance commitment is relatively high, and affective commitment and normative commitment are both relatively low. Three categories of factors affect those occupational commitments. Among the factors of work experience, journalism education and job satisfaction have a significant positive effect on occupational commitment; among the factors of professional aspiration crisis, media roles and ideal news outlets have a significant effect; among the factors of occupational expectancyvalue, video skills, hygiene factors, prestige status factors and development factors have a significant positive effect, while perceived opportunities have a negative impact. Work experience and professional aspiration crisis not only have a direct effect on occupational commitment, but also have an indirect effect by affecting the expectancy-value factors.
Driven by digital technology, journalism ethics takes on a new feature, i.e. transparency has become the new focus in journalism ethics and standards. The journalistic transparency aims to restore trust between journalism and the general public, bringing the process of news production to the front stage. The trust crisis in American journalism, the decline of journalistic objectivity as well as the relationship shift between journalism and the audience accentuate the importance of transparency in journalism ethics. There is also controversy about journalistic transparency. Whether transparency can improve the credibility of journalism and whether transparency can become the new “objectivity” standard are the focuses of the debates. Despite the existence of disputes, the practical values of journalistic transparency are not affected. In practice, whether journalism should be transparent is certain, but the degree of transparency demands more discussion. This paper proposes the concept of “appropriate transparency” and its four criteria: Credibility, degree of bias, public interest and minimum harm, and user experience. As an emerging code of ethics, the practical value and effect of transparency has yet to be evaluated.

Taking 305 animated films released on Mainland China from 2009 to 2018 as a research sample, this study empirically analyzes the impact of online word-of-mouth on box office of domestic and imported animated films. The results show that the volume of online wordof-mouth has a significant positive effect on the box office of both domestic and imported animated films, while the valence of online word-of-mouth can only improve the box office of imported animated films. After the first week's release of animated films, the volume of online word-of-mouth has a greater positive effect on box office of domestic animated films, while the valence of online word-of-mouth has a stronger positive effect on box office of importedanimated films. In addition, since the first week box office has a significant positive impact on the box office of domestic and imported animated films, it has become an important indicator to predict the box office of animated films. However, sequel only has significant positive impact on the box office of domestic animated films, it could be the guarantee of high box office of domestic animation films.
