Symbiosis, Translation and Interaction: Exploring the Mediation of Mediator
With the increasing importance of media’s materiality in the study of communication, the problem of mediation has not been fully explored. This article takes the symbiosis of “body-mediator” as the starting point of research, through combing the philosophy of technology from Bruno Latour and post-phenomenology thoughts on “the mediating relationship between human and artifacts” from Don Ihde. It reveals that the mediators embodied on human have different mediating intentions, showing the same intentions of “readiness-to-hand” and “transparence”; they always transform human’s actions and regulate their experience in the integration and interaction with the bodies; the mediators create a material “association” of daily life by mediating the transmission and communication of information between human and things, things and things, and human and human. This association is easy to form a monopoly of specifc technology, culture, commerce and ideology in a “mediatized” society, which en?ames, forces, and materializes human, thereby creating new con?icts between human and technologies.
