Disappearing Headline: Study on the Visual Factors and Memory Effects of News APP
According to the perception theory, reading is the process of receiving words, pictures and other symbols through the eyes, understanding in the context, and generating short-term memory in the brain. With the method of depth-interview and eye movement experiment, this paper study on what kind of factors can make in?uences on peoples’ reading on News APP, and how these factors affect memories on the news. The results illustrate that the information density has a positive correlation with people's attention and reading time on the guide column. The picture ratio has a positive correlation with people's attention and reading time on news contents. People spend more time reading on pages with high color saturation. The order of pages reduces the gaze effect on news. This paper also finds that the “headline effect” only existed on the visual level; the second headlines on news APP are more possible to be remembered. News memory is affected by factors such as attention and reading time.
