This thesis intends to conduct a detailed analysis of What about Modern China in Pictures (1874-1949), a new book by Professor Wu Guozhong. The content and research value of this book will be elaborated on the horizons of New Cultural History and The Media in Civilization Perspective. Inspired by the research ideas and innovation demonstrated in Wu’s book, this thesis advocates that the study of communication history should be conducted in the interaction among technology, society and culture, so that the innovation in this feld can be realized ultimately.
