In the age of new communication technologies, the motivation of Chinese citizens to express their appeals has gained ever-more momentum than before. Meantime, there are more occurrences of lack of ethics and journalism anomie which lead to a series of regulation by the central government. This paper discusses the questions that if the journalistic professionalism and media ethics from the west would help eliminate the journalism anomie in current China; and how to introduce professional values and meanings deeply rooted in western to China. The paper mainly examines the relationship between the western journalistic professionalism and contemporary China, the problems and dilemmas in China’s journalism system after the introduction of journalistic professionalism, and the challenges to media ethics brought by the public participation in journalism. The paper argues that the western journalistic professionalism and media ethics have positive meanings and normative values in China; while China still faces many difficulties in its journalism reform and professional media ethics.
