Conflicts of Interests and Ideas Disparities: International Communication Discourse and Second Communication Effect in the Dispute over Ren’ai Reef Between China and Philippine
In the case of dispute over Ren’ai Reef between China and Philippine, this paper asks what are the discourses of China’s international communication? What are the second communicative effects of these discourses in international media coverage? Through the framing analysis of Xinhua and China Daily English coverage of dispute over Ren’ai Reef, the authors find that China’s international communication discourses in the dispute are: Safeguarding our sovereignty, blaming Philippine, denying international arbitration, refusing the involvement of the United States and not affecting China’s relation with other countries. But the second communicative effects of these discourses in international media coverage are not satisfied, with the reason that media’s consistence with their national interests, the gap between Chinese perception of ourselves and other perception of China and Chinese government’s difficulties in affecting international media.
