新闻史是一门科学。从事新闻史研究，须有科学的方法和严谨的态度——这虽是一个基本问题，但时至今日仍不时困扰着我们，亟需高度重视。本文从抽样方法与史料研究的角度入手，就姜英等所著《近代中国新闻学界对外国新闻事业的研究概况（1935-1949）》一文中出现的样本容量不足、代表性不明显、准确性不到位以及参考文献注释不妥等问题进行商榷，藉此将笔者对于新闻史学研究方法和态度的看法，以实例加以证明。

The history of journalism  is a science.   It requires   scientific   methods and a rigorous attitude. This is a basic awareness, yet it is still a problem for us and demands  immediate  attention. Based   on the discussion   with   Jiang Ying and others concerning their paper “An Overview of the Studies of Foreign Journalism by Chinese Journalism Academia   (1935-1949)”,   this article proceeds from the perspective of historical data investigation to analyze the problems of their paper, including insufficient samples, limitation in representation, lack of accuracy, and improper annotation. This case study also presents the author’s understanding of the appropriate methods and attitude for researches on the history of journalism.
