1897至1914年德占青岛时期，德国人创办各种报刊十余种，最具特色的是中德双语报纸，近期从德国国际报刊博物馆和德国国家图书馆获得部分原始报刊资料，其中有《青岛官报》、《中德法报》、《自东徂西》三种。《青岛官报》是中国境内第一份中德双语报纸，由德国胶澳总督府出版，面向青岛中国民众、德国侨民以及德国本土发行；《中德法报》和《自东徂西》属学术知识类期刊，由青岛特别高等学堂创办，此前国内均无收藏和资料陈述。值得一提的是，《自西徂东》出版于1913年，是中国近代最早采用中文左起横排版式的期刊。这一发现是对以往学术观点的更正。

        Germany has founded more than ten kinds of newspapers in the period of German occupation from 1897 to 1914, and the most unique feature is Sino-German bilingual newspaper. Recently, we have gained some original newspapers from The German International Newspapers Museum and The National Library of Germany, including Amtsblatt fuer das Deutsche Kiautschou Gebiet, Deutsch-chinesische Rechtszeitung and Der West=örtliche Bote.
