Press Policy and Exchanging Views within Party of Marxist:
Research on F. Engels’ Essay “Farewell Letter to the Readers of the
Sozialdemokrat”
1890年在德国社会民主党重新获得合法地位之时，恩格斯在《社会民主党人报》终刊号上发表
了《给〈社会民主党人报〉读者的告别信》。在信中，他高度评价了该报在社会之中争取新闻出版
自由和在工人政党之内保障言论自由的重要作用，提出在合法时期社会民主党人也不承诺放弃非法
斗争的重要观点，为德国工人运动明确了斗争策略。
When Social Democratic Party of Germany regained legal status in 1890, Engels published “Farewell
Letter to the Readers of the Sozialdemokrat” on the final issue of Der Sozialdemokrat. In the letter, Engels spoke
highly of the important role of the newspaper which fighting for freedom of the press in society and protecting
freedom of speech within workers’ party, and he made the point that Social Democrats should not renounce the
illegal methods of struggle in the legal period so as to clarify the struggle strategy for German labor movement.
