当前人文研究中出现的文化转向起源于对文本的重新认识。作为一种新的媒介形态，近代画
报出现并风行于清末民初社会转型中的中国不是一种偶然的现象。图像不仅是一个时代的记录，
也是某种观看方式的载体。近代画报图像所承载的新的观看方式意味着新的看与被看的关系。这
种新关系对于理解中国的现代转型具有不可替代的价值，是现代性在大众传媒中的表征。本文认
为，从视觉文化角度关照近代画报，探索图像表征现代性的诸多可能，研究画报对普通读者所具
有的教化功能，将有助于新闻传播学界在人文学科文化转向的背景下，重新审视近代画报图像的
学术价值和现实意义，并对理解当前各种层出不穷的视觉文化现象提供有益的借鉴与参考。

The article analyzes the relationship between modern pictorial image and modernity in the
background of the Cultural Turn. The author holds the visuality presented in the pictorials’ images
embody new types of beholding relationship. The images printed on the modern pictorials are not only
historic materials reflecting history, but also the representation of the primary stage of Chinese modernity.
It is necessary and worthy to reassess the modern pictorials in the new research paradigm by means
of Cultural Turn, which is also contributing to reflect on the overwhelmingly spreading visual culture
nowadays.
