民国期间的新闻研究生教育众说纷纭。笔者以丰富的中外史料分析认为：民国时期新闻研究
生教育从1920年代的燕大新闻学系开端，并在1930年代结出硕果。燕大新闻学系先后招收过8名
新闻研究生，仅有葛鲁甫1人于1931年5月撰写完成学位论文Advertising in China，获得硕士学
位，成为中国第一位获得硕士学位的新闻研究生。1940年代，延安中央研究院中国新闻研究室和
重庆中央政治学校新闻学院先后进行过类似研究生教育的实践探索活动，但成效甚微，并非今日
意义的研究生教育。因此，民国期间新闻研究生教育处于萌芽探索阶段，未能持续发展成为正规
的新闻研究生教育体系。这充分反映出中国新闻研究生教育艰难的起步历程。

There are various opinions concerning the graduate education in journalism during the Republic
of China period. Based on rich historical materials both in Chinese and foreign languages, this paper
argues that the Department of Journalism at Yenching University was the first one to launch the graduate
education in journalism in the 1920s and achieved fruitful results in the 1930s. The Department of
Journalism at Yenching University enrolled 8 graduate students, yet only Samuel D. Groff completed the
master dissertation-Advertising in China in May 1931 and got the Master’s Degree in Arts. He is the first
journalism graduate student with the master degree in China. In the 1940s, both the Chinese Journalism
Research Room and the School of Journalism at National Chengchi University practiced the graduate
education in journalism yet with little achievements. The graduate education in journalism during the
Republic of China period is in its infancy and cannot develop into a formal graduate education system. In
that sense, the graduate education in journalism in China experienced a hard starting period.
