Facing what Heidegger termed the end of metaphysics, what can Chinese technological thoughts contribute? Professor Yuk Hui employs “cosmotechnics” as a core concept to address the differences between Chinese and Western traditions, advocating for the preservation and production of diversity, the facilitation of dialogue, and the individualization of thinking. Confronting planetary media or technology, Hui emphasizes that these should not be reduced to science-fictional concepts for critical theory, but rather should prompt reflection on human-environment relations and non-human interactions through planetary-scale technologies. Regarding artificial intelligence, Hui warns against the traps of consumer capitalism inherent in data centers and cautions against AI's tendency to reduce all phenomena to computational irrationality. On the relationship between media studies and the philosophy of technology, Hui proposes suspending essentialized notions of media. Instead, media should be understood as a historical technophany examined within a broader framework—much like situating technology within the cosmos, just as there exists a position for “media” between the starry heavens and moral law in Kant's second critique.
