Abstract

In the curriculum system of Chinese journalism and communication education, most of the content related to media theory originated from the British and American lines, and little effort was given to scholars of the German Contemporary Medienwissenschaft School except Kittler. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Benjamin’s death, this paper combs the “perception” media theory of Norbert Bolz, a media scholar from Germany, and considers him to be a “Benjamin tributary” of the German Contemporary Medienwissenschaft School(GCMS) that is different from the “mainstream of Kittler”. Bolz’s academic development path is related to the “growth” of the GCMS. Benjamin’s theory is the foundation of “perception”, and “perception” can be divide to three levels: for the micro level, the perception theory is based on the combined effect of individual senses and media technology; for the meso level, the perception theory is based on a certain collective; for the macro level, it is a perception theory based on aesthetics. This is quite different from Kittler’s theory, which is well-known in Chinese academia.
