From Transnational Binge-Watching to Fans’ Community Abuse: Fans’ Nationalism in Daily Performance

Abstract

In recent years, the emerging phenomenon of “Fans’ Community Expedition” is a kind of nationalist practice form which lies between grand special events and banal daily representations. This article takes “Chinese and Thai netizen abuse On April 11” as the point of penetration and proposes a concept of “nationalism in daily performance” to explain this new phenomenon based on the Internet platform. By placing it in the one global speech field shaped by new media technology, this article investigates the daily performance of fans’ nationalism from three aspects: the censorship of global texts, the strategic use of nationalism, and the choices among multiple values. Nowadays, the operation of nationalism has expanded from the enclosed space of nation-states to a vast and common global Internet platform. Young people have solidified the “political correctness” censorship as a habit in their daily reading of online texts. Not only are they inspired in certain major events, but any remarks that degrade or harm China will cause habitually alert of the body and may further trigger an “expedition”. They threw themselves into the emotional abreaction in the “flame war” as well as showed sensitiveness and rationality in the choice of strategies. They also underwent continuous negotiations and choices based on different value orientation when facing the conflicts of multiple identities.

6. 毒粉,指为了维护自己的偶像而恶意攻击其他人,被饭圈认为是“粉丝中的毒瘤”。

7. “CP粉”通过幻想两个偶像正主之间的“真情实感”来获得满足感;“唯粉”只喜欢一个偶像且将他视为绝对独立甚至神圣的个体,考虑到偶像的长远发展,唯粉拒绝偶像和任何人捆绑。

8. Win在Bright主演的泰剧《假偶天成》中饰演Bright的恋人,因此一部分粉丝希望或幻想Bright在现实中也和Win恋爱,由此不待见他现实中的女友。

9. 如在Bright陷入“辱华”风波被国内粉丝讨伐时,一些cp粉会暂时把自己的推特头像和简介换成单人内容以隐藏粉籍;在事件升级引发中泰网友对立后一些粉丝特意改用英文发推以隐藏国籍。

10. 许多中国粉丝将事情发生后Bright的沉默视为支持他女朋友的行为。

11. 之前因为411事件(认为自己被Bright伤害)转黑或退坑(不再关注或追了别的cp)的粉丝表示不会看剧,即使看也是为了找黑点继续黑他,报复心理,她们基本连第一部也没看完;既是Bright黑粉同时又是Win的粉丝会继续追剧,他们组建自己的字幕组,在剧超刷屏Win单人内容,故意冷落Bright;路人粉或剧粉(不喜欢Bright了,但也懒得黑他)会视情况而定。
