Abstract

This paper selects original journalism research articles that are relatively innovative in the aspects of problem awareness, research perspective, research methods from nearly 30 Chinese academic journals (including those from Hong Kong and Taiwan). The paper reviews the relevant literature from eight topics, media transformation, studies of professional journalists, studies of news and social memory, technology and Chinese journalism, audience as citizens and user, journalism theory studies, newspaper history studies and modern politics, as well as discipline construction and re?ection. The study fnds that in 2019, four trends feature Chinese journalism studies: Firstly, some important issues focus on the changes of the journalism ecology and quite a few researches prefer to re?ecting the local practice in context of China. Secondly, Chinese journalists and audience studies show obvious sociological research orientation, class characteristics, group differentiation, role conflict and jurisdiction are the mainly entry points. Thirdly, journalism theory studies are given to both re?ecting classical concepts and introducing newly journalism practices as well as its theoretical status. Fourthly, the research of newspaper history focuses on organizing materials and viewpoints in the context and problem framework of special history and modern political history, they are trying to open up research perspectives in order to avoid involution.
