New media technologies such as online newspaper and social media are commonly used as a distribution platform in news and communication feld, with the deeply transformation of new transmission channels and media ecology, which brings great challenges to the journalism and mass communication education around the world. This paper investigates and analyzes the current status of journalism and mass communication education in China and foreign countries from following perspectives of research and teaching faculty, academic platforms, curriculum arrangement, degree-granting authority, research achievements etc., in order to grasp the changes of theory and practice of journalism and mass communication education in the new media era. The research concludes that many journalism and communication education institutions actively probe into academic and practical faculty recruitment policy, insist on teaching methods with emphasis on academic and practical training, and build teaching platform of media-education convergence, which have been enhancing the collaboration between education institutions and News & Media industry. Furthermore, many journalism and communication education institutions have many academic and practice faculty with various disciplinary background and provide multi- disciplinary or multi-department master’s degree or Ph.D. programs. Media-education convergence and Multidisciplinary collaboration in teaching philosophy will be the important trends of journalism and mass communication education in the new media environment.
