During the Anti-Japanese War, Xinhua Daily ran newspapers in Wuhan and Chongqing, forming a unique pattern of running newspapers in cities. Xinhua Daily’s pattern of running newspapers in cities differs from Liberation Daily’s pattern of Yan'an Party newspaper and theory of party newspaper after its revision in terms of news communications. In 1942, transformed by the theory of party newspaper, Xinhua Daily learnt from the Yan’an pattern of Party newspaper and made a revision which supports the rectification movement. Through the analysis of the relevant materials of Xinhua daily, this paper fnds that the city of Xinhua daily has experienced the process from con?ict to adjustment. However, the revised Xinhua Daily did not completely abandon the practice of running newspapers in cities. The pattern of running newspapers in cities had in?uenced the Communist Party of China’s practice of running newspapers in cities until the establishment of the People's Republic of China.
