Identity Crisis and Confusion of the Paradigm: Rethink on Re?ection on Communication Studies
Nowadays reflection on communication studies focuses on discipline status, research paradigm as well as ways of reconstruction. The binary opposition between discipline and interdisciplinehas given rise to the profound identity crisis among communication scholars, which is shown in fragmentation of the field, short of core knowledge and marginalization of discipline status. Criticism on Empirical Schoolstudies which have occupied a dominant position for an extended period of timehasreached a consensus.And in all traditional paradigms advocated by scholars, Chicago School and Critical School are put more emphasis. As to the ways of reconstruction, scholars has paid more attention to integrallynegative thinking, delving the theories and response to realistic problems. Above all, re?ection on communication studies still focus on certain subjects that were discussed in the past, with little innovation and few dialogues. The biggest problem is the lack of concerns about the important problems and sufferings human faces.
