How political news shape political participation: the perspective of political psychology
Political news reporting in China takes the responsibility of propaganda, but it shows a fxed pattern in narratives and frames. This study explores the impact of exposure to political news on educated young Chinese’s political participation through the mediation of political trust, political alienation and attitude towards Internet censorship through a survey on Chinese college students using an analogous PPS sampling approach (N=495). The results of path analysis suggest that exposure to political news encourages participation directly, but at the same time arouses political distrust, political alienation and low support for Internet censorship, demonstrating the malfunction of political propaganda on educated young Chinese.
