Abstract

The use of new media, makes the audience have more opportunities to access media and makes the media memory more diverse. From the media memory we can find the content of collective memory. Qualitative methods, frequently used in media memory studies, usually aim to rethink society through the perspective of evaluation on those who were memorialized. Few researches bring home to the social capital of those who were memorialized by comparing difference of memorial contents on media. This paper uses word frequency analysis and comparative method, focusing on the difference of media content in memorial of Gan Xifen and Ning Shufan through the theoretical perspective of social capital. Individual social capital, bridging social capital, bonding social capital and symbol social capital, as discussed in this paper, could offer an explanation on these differences.
