Abstract

The article reviews previous literature published in both English and Chinese on media effects and social media measurement in past decades. Having adopted different perspectives from communication, sociology and computer science, the article provides a multi-disciplinary landscape of the metrics used to gauge social media effect, and points out the areas of growth on this topic. Based on the literature, a goal-oriented social media measurement structure is proposed, and suggestions of future research on social media measurement are discussed in the last part of the article.
