On the Interdisciplinary Orientation of Political Economy of Communication

Abstract

Interdisciplinary orientation is rooted in the gene of Political Economy of Communication. As the inter-discipline of political economy and communication studies, Political Economy of Communication is in?uenced by different kinds of social movements and social thinking in its birth, development and evolution, and absorbs actively theories and methods of other disciplines, then develops various interdisciplinary orientations. Political Economy of Communication combining with race studies focuses on analyzing the mutual construction of race and communication, Political Economy of Communication combining feminism recognizes the male politics and money control; Political Economy of Communication combining ethnography emphasizes explaining communication phenomena and behaviors of different ethnic groups; Political Economy of Communication converges with cultural studies in their discussion and conversation. In retrospection and self-criticism, Political Economy of Communication continues to improve its theory system and keeps up with the times.
