Abstract

In 1933, Chinese journalist groups had established The Journalists' Day on September 1st . The Journalists' Day originated from some spontaneous movements of our country’s folk journalists. Finally, this festival was confirmed by the national government to be the “National Journalists' Day”, which improved the professional image and occupational status of journalists during the Republic of China. Journalist groups of the Republic of China tried to construct a new cultural tradition to reverse the negative perceptions on the press since modern times by the Journalists’ Day and its celebrating events, related comments and ceremony. This article argues that this festival is not only a self-attempt to reestablish the professional image and occupational tradition, but also manifests that our country’s journalist groups of professionalism rise suddenly. ??
