Abstract

Through in-depth interviews with 45 senior members of the online communities Tianya, Youku and Douban, this paper tries to provide comprehensive descriptions and interpretations of active cyberculture producers in contemporary China. The results indicate that the cyberculture producers identify themselves in a very similar manner as culture producers from traditional media environment. It is not difficult to understand that even though the identification of cyberculture producers are relatively conservation comparing to their producing practices, they can still bring something fresh or emancipatory into the dichotomous social structure of “state-market”.
