Abstract

The introduction of the idea of Liberty, which is frequently discussed but rarely textual criticized, is the most important component of the intercultural communication in Late Imperial China. This study clarifies and unfolds the diachronic situation on intercultural flowing of the idea of liberty, based on the following three aspects: the etymology changing,the political intercourse, and the missionary periodicals. Meanwhile, this study also analyzes the phenomenonof interacting ideas and the correlative text in the history of thought spread. The cumulative mode ,in which the idea of Liberty has been introduced, reflects that the special thought has the special communication pathway in the different cultural environment, and embodies the historical truth of the political civilization conflict in Late Imperial China.
