From history of newspapers to history of newspaper reading: an alternative perspective of Chinese journalism history research

Abstract

Inspired by the western studies, this article explored the possibility of applying newspaper reading history research to Chinese context. The author pointed out that, compared to book, newspaper represents a different type of knowledge which is prone to communicate current events to the public and transmit entirely different feelings to its readers. Accordingly, the article displayed the background, question consciousness and methodology of conducting newspaper reading history in Chinese journalism study.
