Abstract

This study meant to re-visiting the organizational field and the leadership style of China Times under its founder, Yu Chi-chung's age through the eyes of 15 former journalists and leaders in this newspaper. The study found that Yu Chi-chung was forced to adopt two-hand strategy in the political realm to play game with the political power. At the same time, China Times has survived through the decline of the media market. Yu Chi-chung's paternalistic and charismatic leadership style has the following characteristics: "appoint the talented journalist himself, and treat them with respect", "guide with value and take action to achieve it", " widely adopt the different point of views, and allow to challenge his authority," "concern afterwards, and try to communicate his idea with the journalists and editors".
