Abstract

The concepts of “media events” and "ritual view of communication" have been widely cited in Chinese communication research in recent years. However, there are some misunderstandings in these uses, which this article tries to clarify by revisiting “Media Event: The Live Broadcasting of History " by D. Dayan and E. Katz and "Communication as Culture: Essays on Media and Society" by J. W. Carey, in which the two concepts was ?rst put forward.
