Abstract

Community media contains various forms and meanings, including the access to media, democratization of communication  and  the cultivation of  public consciousness. Embedded in the transition of both social structure and the production of journalism, the research of community media in China has unique implications in theory and methodological signi?cance. As the platform of media participation and communication, the emerging community networks are promoting the empowerment of community members, reconstructing the community neighborhoods, cultivating the sense of belonging, and encouraging the citizens to fight for their rights by organizing connective action.
