Abstract

The linear model of communication between traditional media and new media cannot be used to explain the information flow among different media. The article uses the new circular interactive communication model and a case study of "birds' nests demolishing in Shanghai Jiao Tong University" to analyze the interactive logic between traditional print media and micro-blog when they spread, verify and correct messages. The article demonstrates how traditional media's position of being the first agenda-setter has been replaced by micro-blog and how the cooperation between the old and the new media can improve media's automatic depuration on false information.Researches show circular interactive communication can be used to explain the relationship between traditional media and new media. The article also warns that facing the fierce competition among multiple media, traditional media should not only be proactive to obtain information but also stick to professional reporting. With established credibility, printing media should correct errors as soon as possible during reporting to seize back its agenda-setting position.
