Abstract

Using methods of content analysis and text analysis, the author analyzes the image construction of
ethnic minorities on People’s Daily in the past three decades. It is found that reports concerning ethnic
minorities mostly focus on politics and economics, while adopting a neutrally informing tone, most
reports use narrative strategies such as praising achievements, advocating ethnic unity and promoting
good examples to form an open and continuous developing image of minority groups in China.
