Abstract

Drawing on data from internet search engine service and using time series analysis, this research
testify the agenda-setting effect caused by the internet gossip diffusion based on the theoretical frame of
internet agenda melding in the context of social media and the cascade dynamics of agenda setting by
Michael Scharkow etc. The author finds that the magnification of gossip caused by social media leads the
agenda-setting effect and gossip generated by social media plays an intervening variable in the internet
agenda-setting progress.
