Abstract

A number of studies have been done toward the thesis of “big data” since 2012, but few researchers have paid attention to another concept of “data journalism”. Data journalism, a new concept emerging from the innovation and development of modern journalism practices, is believed to be the future of journalism. This paper reviewed different views on data journalism from home and abroad and sorted out some main stream media practices for case studies. Thus it tried to define the concept, describe its basic features and differentiate data journalism from the concepts of precision journalism, computer-assisted reporting and data visualization for a whole review.
