Abstract

This paper studies the concepts of “international communication” and “global communication” from the historic perspective, and claims that since the emergence of “international communication”, it has been used in a broad sense and its research approach and paradigm has been evolved with the changes of social contexts. For most international communication scholars, “global communication” can be taken as the new phase or form of “international communication” against the backdrop of globalization. However, due to the explanatory strength of “international communication” as well as the national boundary still plays a role in communication process nowadays, this paper argues that the concept of “international communication” is still applicable and cannot be replaced by “global communication”.
