Can People’s Livelihood Journalism Transform into Public Journalism in China? The Observation from a Field Study
The rising of people’s livelihood journalism in China since 2002 has arouse a lot of discussions and critiques because it is seen to be too vulgar, boring and caters to audience. Many theorists think the future of people’s livelihood journalism is to transform into public journalism. Based on a field study in one people’s livelihood journalism TV program in southern China conducted in 2010, this study attempts to explore the possibility of such a transformation. When the power of audience or market advances people’s livelihood journalism to acquire the professional fame and profit, it also limits its future.
