Reconstructing the Relationship between Cities and Newspapers in the History of Modern Chinese Newspapers

Abstract

        The history of Chinese newspapers intertwines tightly with the change of Chinese cities. Cities are very important dimension to look through the development of Chinese modern newspapers. The relationship between cities and newspapers is bound by the framework of “need and to be needed” on the political and revolutionary paradigm of Chinese modern newspapers history. To break through the framework of “need and to be needed”the article argues that the researchers should pay attention to cities’ political, economical, cultural impact on the newspapers in the perspective of modern urban history and rebuild a three-dimensional, rich and interactive relationship between cities and newspapers.
