Stigmatization: News Reporting on Online Gaming Teenagers’ Image

After screening and analyzing the universal and significant news report, the article discusses news
report on online games youth’s stigma construction, found that news media which report online games
youth through stressing the marketing content, dramatic coverage and depriving players’ discourse right,
have labeled “loss of sense of responsibility”, “problem juvenile”, and “crime tendencies” to the online
gaming teenagers. This forms the online games youth’s stigma. News reports’ image - building of young
players of online games has gradually gone deep into public subconscious, which is the root of the
stereotype and the inherent basis that the public treat the young players of online games in real life. The
article tries to analyze the process and impact that the stigma on the online gaming teenagers’ image, and
propose some effective ways and means to remove the stigma.
