On the basis of deconstructing and reconstructing the theory of marginal man which is traced back to sociology, this paper tries to promote a dialogue between this theory and communication. Firstly, based on the concept of marginal man proposed by Park, later perfected and refined by other scholars, this paper introduces the concept of “uncertainty”and Rollo May’s theory of “anxiety”, and combines with relevant cases, trying to deconstruct marginal situation and marginal personality, and reconstruct the relationship between them from the perspective of individuals. At the same time, this paper discusses some possible dialogues between “marginal man”and communication-related issues, hoping to attract the attention of communication scholars to this theory and stimulate more research perspectives and ideas.
