Abstract

This article based on the case study of Lei Yang event. Through the social network analysis and text analysis of Lei’s schoolmates’ WeChat group discussion content, the article drew the following conclusions: WeChat group is the “carnival of the few”. The subject can be divided into different roles such as sponsor, spreader, disputant, edge participants and self-talked person. Some of the off-line social capital is brought into the virtual space and is selectively enlarged. The so-called “seniors” in virtual space is more like a “community ceremony” to construct selfidentity and clear community ownership. Discourse diffusion, self-identity construction, selective discourse admonition, the anomie of community etiquette and the unique feature of micro public space are the characteristics of the virtual WeChat space. And the WeChat group is a independent, semi-autonomous public space that mix the synchronic dimension and diachronic dimension and full of confrontation.
