Abstract

Owing to the structured opportunity, communication study was popular with Columbia school from early 1940s to the middle era of 1950s. However, the school lost its original ground after the period of prosperity. This paper argues that three key factors including lack of genuine interest of critical figures, shortage of sustainable funding and uninstitutionalized research team contribute to the disintegration of the media research. Thanks to scholars like Schramm, Katz, Bleyer and their followers ensuring continuity and development of the Colombia's classical idea.
